Student Guide: FMU Username and Email Change to @fmu.edu
As part of FMU’s summer system upgrade and domain migration, all student email addresses and usernames are being updated from @fmu.fmuniv.edu to @fmu.edu.
This change improves system consistency, simplifies login across services, and better reflects the FMU brand. Please review the guide below to understand how this change affects your access to campus resources.
What’s Changing?
- Your login username:
- Before: jstu1234@fmu.fmuniv.edu
- Now: jstu1234@fmu.edu
- Your student email address:
- Before: jstu1234@fmuniv.edu
- Now: jstu1234@fmu.edu
Your FMU username follows this format: first initial + first three letters of your last name + 4 numbers (e.g., jstu1234)
- Password is NOT CHANGING.
What Services Are Affected?
| Service | What You Need to Know |
|---|---|
| Blackboard / LMS | Uses SAML login (single sign-on). You must now log in with your new @fmu.edu email. |
| Email (Outlook Web or App) | Your new primary email is username@fmu.edu. You may need to remove and re-add your account in Outlook Mobile or Mail apps. |
| Microsoft 365 Apps | Use your updated @fmu.edu credentials to sign in to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Teams. |
Action Required
✅ Update your login information in:
- Blackboard
- Outlook Web and Mobile Apps
- Microsoft 365 Apps
✅ Remove and re-add your account on mobile apps (see student mobile guide).
✅ Clear saved/cached usernames in browsers or apps that auto-fill your old address.
✅ Reshare documents in OneDrive if shared using the old email address.
Will I Still Receive Emails Sent to My Old Address?
Yes. Any messages sent to your old @fmuniv.edu address (e.g., jstu1234@fmuniv.edu) will still be delivered to your inbox. However, your primary email address going forward will be @fmu.edu.
We encourage you to inform your contacts and update any external services or subscriptions with your new email.
